Open Water Sessions and tips for a good session

New month and new advice from Lucas. The triathlon season is launch now, as well as the Open Water! Here is some tips regarding this activity!

1- Take Landmarks : Even if your favorite pool as no more secret (number of pane..) you feel well and in security when you swim there. Clear water, and the side is never so far. So, perfect condition. Open water is not really the same. Clear blue water is not common in open water and you will have more chance to swim in troubled water. Your senses and you will be lost, that is why you need to find some new habits to be confident for your next race.
2- The direction : Swimming in open water will make you work on your direction. This is one of the key of success during a competition : Do the shortest distance thanks to a good ability to swim a straight line in the right direction. Find a buoy and go on it. Adapt your swim to keep an eye. Control your direction. This kind of exercise is hard to adapt in the pool, that is why it is important to do it during Open water session.
3-Test your equipment : Swim with a Triathlon Wetsuit is really different. Even if you will find now on the market really good one, it is still not perfect as to be in swimsuit. Feelings are different and you need to be prepared of it.

Advice for your futur Open Water Session!

1- Find a partner – or more- to be more safe in the water. If you can’t, do not go far away from the side, and to some going-comings swim.
2- See: Some glasses made for Open Water can be a real advantage for you: smoked glass with a wide angle vision. During competitions, avoid the « Swedish », which can be dangerous if you receive a punch.
3- Being seen: During your training, it can be good to swim with an Open Water buoy, to signal your presence and in case of fatigue, it can become a real help. At least a colored cap is essential for you to be well spotted.
4 – Be careful with the burns: : This is a special effect of Open Water and wetsuit. Indeed, you will lift your head to know where your are and the collar of the suit is rubbing on the back of your neck.
Repeat it a coule of time, and you will have burns on your neck! To avoid this, you can apply, before the session, a moisturizing cream on your neck.

Even if the Spring is not super warm, the season is launched now,
then, throw yourself in the water!!🏊😉
